A Can of Worms

According to Wikipedia, if you 'open a can of worms', you can unexpectedly set in motion something with far reaching consequences. For those of us who  like to live on the wild side, wouldn't that be exciting?

The worms I will set free are all the topics I find interesting, scary, confusing and infuriating. Perhaps something of 'far reaching consequence' will come of it. A movement perhaps, maybe we will hear the creaking sound of minds being opened to new thoughts and possibilities. Maybe we will just have some fun.

Did you know that the expression "open a can of worms" originated in the 1950's, when live bait worms were sold in cans? When the fisherman got to his favorite spot, the can would be opened and therein lay the problem. Worms, being alive and adverse to being canned, would wiggle their way out and head off in all directions. The initial problem of catching fish, then became the problem of chasing down the bait. Used as an idiom, it is a caution to 'keep the lid on' or all kinds of 'worms' will hit the fan, if you know what I mean. But I say, no! Let the worms run free. They may just show us a way to get off our current political-emotional-financial-spiritual-hook.
